ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOGS OF GWENT
Retired Police Dogs of Gwent was established by a group of caring individuals from varying backgrounds that came together to support the retired police dogs of Gwent Police in their welfare requirements.

Once a police dog retires, the responsibility of their welfare no longer falls under their previous police force, meaning it is down to their new owner to provide financial support. Did you know that it is extremely difficult to insure police dogs because of the nature of their roles?
Happily, lots of dogs retire to a fit and healthy new lifestyle, finding comfort and relaxation in their new forever homes. Some dogs, however, may have ongoing costs or new costs that have developed simply from old age, injury or from new emerging ailments, which can happen to any dog from any background. We, however, are of the firm belief that we wish to repay the RPDs for their loyalty and dedication in helping protect our communities. Although it is not possible for RPD of Gwent to support ongoing costs such as food or general vet bills, we would really like to be there for unexpected large bills. Being able to provide the financial support to alleviate a large and unforeseen bill can help owners from having to sometimes make difficult and heart-breaking decisions. We feel this in some small way repays these amazing animals for everything they have done for us. Whether the dog has retired to their handlers, who they will have a strong and unbreakable bond with, or a new forever family, the dogs will be very loved and their owners will want the very best for them.
